Privacy Policy
Last updated 10 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information Be Online collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. It is written to meet our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
Be Online is an online services brand operated by Be Digital Limited, a New Zealand company. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean Be Digital Limited. We are the agency responsible for the personal information described here.
You can contact us about privacy at any time: support@bedigital.co.nz or (09) 975-9409.
What we collect
We only collect personal information we actually need in order to provide a service you have asked for.
- When you contact us — your name, email address, and whatever you choose to write in your message.
- When you buy a domain, hosting, email or another product — your name, billing address, contact details and payment details. Registry rules also require certain contact details for domain registrations.
- When you use the website — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived. This is collected through Google Analytics and is aggregated, not used to identify you personally.
- When you search for a domain — the term you search is sent to our registration provider so it can return availability and pricing. We do not use domain searches for any other purpose, and we do not register names you have searched.
We do not collect sensitive information such as health or ethnicity data, and you are never required to identify yourself simply to browse the site.
How we use it
We use personal information to provide and support the products you have ordered, to answer your enquiries, to bill you, to meet legal and registry obligations, and to improve the website. We do not sell personal information to anyone.
We will only send you marketing email if you have asked for it or if you are an existing customer and the message relates to something similar to what you bought. Every marketing message includes an unsubscribe link, as required by the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Unsubscribing does not stop service and billing notices, which we still need to send.
Who we share it with, and where it goes
This is the part most people care about, so we will be plain about it.
Domains, hosting, email and security products sold through this website are provisioned through our authorised reseller platform. When you place an order, the information needed to create and manage that product is passed to that provider and to any relevant domain registry. Your order is completed on their secure checkout, and payment card details are handled by them — we never see or store your full card number.
This means some of your personal information is stored and processed on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States. Information Privacy Principle 12 of the Privacy Act 2020 requires us to tell you this. We only use providers who are subject to privacy safeguards comparable to those in the Privacy Act.
Domain registration also carries a public element: registry operators may publish or disclose certain registrant details in accordance with their own rules. For .nz domains this is governed by the Domain Name Commission; for international extensions such as .com it is governed by ICANN policy.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to someone’s safety.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — which pages people read, which searches they run, and whether they get in touch. It sets cookies in your browser and reports to us in aggregate. We do not use it to build advertising profiles of you.
Our shopping and account features also set cookies so that a cart persists between pages and so you stay signed in. If you block cookies entirely, buying and account features will not work properly.
You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on, or block cookies in your browser settings.
Keeping it safe
The whole site is served over HTTPS, so anything you send us is encrypted in transit. Access to enquiry data is limited to the people who need it to do their job. Payment and account systems are operated by our provider under their own security controls.
If we ever have a privacy breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as it is useful for supporting you, and no longer than we need it. Records connected to a purchase are kept for at least seven years, because tax law requires it. Analytics data is retained on a rolling basis and is not tied to your identity.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Email support@bedigital.co.nz and we will respond within 20 working days. There is no charge for a routine request.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to us first, and then to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz or 0800 803 909.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will say so on the website rather than expecting you to notice.
